Newton Justice of Peace Court II serves the residents of Newton County, the 22th largest county in Texas state. The county falls in the third senatorial district and the 11th congressional district. As a result, it holds a very special role that makes it supported by both the Newton district clerk and county clerk. Issues that should be filed with the county clerk or the district clerk should be strictly filed within the respective courts; luckily, the staff is friendly and will help you through the process.

The current Newton Justice of Peace Court II judge has been in office since 2010 and has dedicated his life serving the Newton. The courts, the district clerk, and the county clerk’s office are located in the historic Newton County Courthouse. The Newton Justice of Peace Court II is located on North Highway 87 in the city of Newton, the Newton county seat.

The administration of justice in the Newton Justice of Peace Court II is open, transparent, and open to the public. All the proceedings and acts of the court are recorded and maintained by the Newton County Clerk’s Office.  The public can access the record online or by mailing the county clerk’s office located at Newton County Courthouse. The requests are made by creating a written statement indicating a request for the records, the case number, and requisite application fees in a stamped self-addressed envelope. For more information about court proceedings, visit the court’s official site.

Newton Justice of Peace Court II was first built in 1876 in the Newton Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in February 1884. Four courthouses have been built in Newton. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome. You can call 409-565-2719 or fax 409-565-2720 to the court during office hours to get more information.
