Amarillo Department of Aging department’s mission statement says it all: The Potter Department of Aging promotes the independence and quality of life of the elderly population through leadership, advocacy, collaboration, and education. It was formed when the Texas Legislature required each county to have an area agency on aging (AAA). Amarillo Department of Aging serves anyone older than 60 years old, frail or disabled regardless of age.

About The Amarillo Department of Aging

Amarillo Department of Aging is operated through the federal department of aging and collaborative agreement with the Area Agency on Aging. Health, safety, and independence for the elderly are the primary goals.

Services Offered

To help senior citizens stay active and engaged in the community as they age, Amarillo Department of Aging offers several services. These include free Meals on Wheels services, transportation to appointments; home health care workers; and more.

Amarillo Department of Aging also facilitates support groups where seniors can share their experiences and interact with others in similar situations. This keeps them connected to one another even as they grow older and live alone. As well as Amarillo programs, they also host events that bring together senior citizens with other members of their community. These events include trips to museums or outings for ice cream or lunch out together.

By encouraging socialization between people from different generations and walks of life, they aim to strengthen bonds between Potter County’s residents regardless of whether they’re old or young. Programs and other information can be found on their official website.
