Winnsboro Justice of Peace Court serves the residents of Wood County, the 143th largest county in Texas state. The county falls in the third senatorial district and the 11th congressional district. As a result, it holds a very special role that makes it supported by both the Winnsboro district clerk and county clerk. Issues that should be filed with the county clerk or the district clerk should be strictly filed within the respective courts; luckily, the staff is friendly and will help you through the process.

The current Winnsboro Justice of Peace Court judge has been in office since 2011 and has dedicated his life serving the Winnsboro. The courts, the district clerk, and the county clerk’s office are located in the historic Wood County Courthouse. The Winnsboro Justice of Peace Court is located on 1001 East Coke Road in the city of Winnsboro, the Wood county seat.

The administration of justice in the Winnsboro Justice of Peace Court is open, transparent, and open to the public. All the proceedings and acts of the court are recorded and maintained by the Wood County Clerk’s Office.  The public can access the record online or by mailing the county clerk’s office located at Wood County Courthouse. The requests are made by creating a written statement indicating a request for the records, the case number, and requisite application fees in a stamped self-addressed envelope. For more information about court proceedings, visit the court’s official site.

Winnsboro Justice of Peace Court was first built in 1910 in the Wood Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in July 1890. Four courthouses have been built in Winnsboro. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome. You can call 903-342-3079 or fax 903-342-9903 to the court during office hours to get more information.
