Bridgeport Justice of Peace Court serves the residents of Wise County, the 42th largest county in Texas state. The county falls in the third senatorial district and the 11th congressional district. As a result, it holds a very special role that makes it supported by both the Bridgeport district clerk and county clerk. Issues that should be filed with the county clerk or the district clerk should be strictly filed within the respective courts; luckily, the staff is friendly and will help you through the process.

The current Bridgeport Justice of Peace Court judge has been in office since 2014 and has dedicated his life serving the Bridgeport. The courts, the district clerk, and the county clerk’s office are located in the historic Wise County Courthouse. The Bridgeport Justice of Peace Court is located on 1007 13th Street in the city of Bridgeport, the Wise county seat.

The administration of justice in the Bridgeport Justice of Peace Court is open, transparent, and open to the public. All the proceedings and acts of the court are recorded and maintained by the Wise County Clerk’s Office.  The public can access the record online or by mailing the county clerk’s office located at Wise County Courthouse. The requests are made by creating a written statement indicating a request for the records, the case number, and requisite application fees in a stamped self-addressed envelope. For more information about court proceedings, visit the court’s official site.

Bridgeport Justice of Peace Court was first built in 1870 in the Wise Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in April 1919. Four courthouses have been built in Bridgeport. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome. You can call 940-683-4244 or fax 940-683-3747 to the court during office hours to get more information.
