Wharton District Court I was first built in 1859 in the Wharton Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in November 1865. Four courthouses have been built in Wharton. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
