Monahans Justice of Peace Court was first built in 1887 in the Ward Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in July 1897. Four courthouses have been built in Monahans. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
