DeWitt District Court serves the residents of Victoria County, the 98th largest county in Texas state. The county falls in the third senatorial district and the 11th congressional district. DeWitt District Court was first built in 1906 in the Victoria Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in July 1870. Four courthouses have been built in Victoria. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
