Van Zandt County Court serves the residents of Van Zandt County, the 109th largest county in Texas state. The county falls in the third senatorial district and the 11th congressional district. Van Zandt County Court was first built in 1873 in the Van Zandt Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in November 1857. Four courthouses have been built in Canton. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
