Van Zandt County Court serves the residents of Van Zandt County, the 109th largest county in Texas state. The county falls in the third senatorial district and the 11th congressional district. As a result, it holds a very special role that makes it supported by both the Canton district clerk and county clerk. Issues that should be filed with the county clerk or the district clerk should be strictly filed within the respective courts; luckily, the staff is friendly and will help you through the process.

The current Van Zandt County Court judge has been in office since 2014 and has dedicated his life serving the Canton. The courts, the district clerk, and the county clerk’s office are located in the historic Van Zandt County Courthouse. The Van Zandt County Court is located on 121 East Dallas Street in the city of Canton, the Van Zandt county seat.

The administration of justice in the Van Zandt County Court is open, transparent, and open to the public. All the proceedings and acts of the court are recorded and maintained by the Van Zandt County Clerk’s Office.  The public can access the record online or by mailing the county clerk’s office located at Van Zandt County Courthouse. The requests are made by creating a written statement indicating a request for the records, the case number, and requisite application fees in a stamped self-addressed envelope. For more information about court proceedings, visit the court’s official site.

Van Zandt County Court was first built in 1873 in the Van Zandt Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in November 1857. Four courthouses have been built in Canton. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome. You can call 903-567-4071 or fax 903-567-7216 to the court during office hours to get more information.
