Van Municipal Court was first built in 1863 in the Van Zandt Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in October 1883. Four courthouses have been built in Van. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
