Ben Wheeler Justice of Peace Court serves the residents of Van Zandt County, the 109th largest county in Texas state. The county falls in the third senatorial district and the 11th congressional district. As a result, it holds a very special role that makes it supported by both the Ben Wheeler district clerk and county clerk. Issues that should be filed with the county clerk or the district clerk should be strictly filed within the respective courts; luckily, the staff is friendly and will help you through the process.

The current Ben Wheeler Justice of Peace Court judge has been in office since 2011 and has dedicated his life serving the Ben Wheeler. The courts, the district clerk, and the county clerk’s office are located in the historic Van Zandt County Courthouse. The Ben Wheeler Justice of Peace Court is located on 1540 Farm to Market Road 279 in the city of Ben Wheeler, the Van Zandt county seat.

The administration of justice in the Ben Wheeler Justice of Peace Court is open, transparent, and open to the public. All the proceedings and acts of the court are recorded and maintained by the Van Zandt County Clerk’s Office.  The public can access the record online or by mailing the county clerk’s office located at Van Zandt County Courthouse. The requests are made by creating a written statement indicating a request for the records, the case number, and requisite application fees in a stamped self-addressed envelope. For more information about court proceedings, visit the court’s official site.

Ben Wheeler Justice of Peace Court was first built in 1893 in the Van Zandt Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in June 1869. Four courthouses have been built in Ben Wheeler. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome. You can call 903-833-5705 or fax 903-833-5829 to the court during office hours to get more information.
