Dean Fowler

Gilmer Justice of Peace Court III serves the residents of Upshur County, the 154th largest county in Texas state. The county falls in the third senatorial district and the 11th congressional district. As a result, it holds a very special role that makes it supported by both the Gilmer district clerk and county clerk. Issues that should be filed with the county clerk or the district clerk should be strictly filed within the respective courts; luckily, the staff is friendly and will help you through the process.

The current Gilmer Justice of Peace Court III judge has been in office since 2015 and has dedicated his life serving the Gilmer. The courts, the district clerk, and the county clerk’s office are located in the historic Upshur County Courthouse. The Gilmer Justice of Peace Court III is located on 405 Titus Street in the city of Gilmer, the Upshur county seat.

The administration of justice in the Gilmer Justice of Peace Court III is open, transparent, and open to the public. All the proceedings and acts of the court are recorded and maintained by the Upshur County Clerk’s Office.  The public can access the record online or by mailing the county clerk’s office located at Upshur County Courthouse. The requests are made by creating a written statement indicating a request for the records, the case number, and requisite application fees in a stamped self-addressed envelope. For more information about court proceedings, visit the court’s official site.

Gilmer Justice of Peace Court III was first built in 1873 in the Upshur Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in October 1871. Four courthouses have been built in Gilmer. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome. You can call 903-843-5023 or fax 903-843-4772 to the court during office hours to get more information.
