Woodville Justice of Peace Court I serves the residents of Tyler County, the 26th largest county in Texas state. The county falls in the third senatorial district and the 11th congressional district. As a result, it holds a very special role that makes it supported by both the Woodville district clerk and county clerk. Issues that should be filed with the county clerk or the district clerk should be strictly filed within the respective courts; luckily, the staff is friendly and will help you through the process.

The current Woodville Justice of Peace Court I judge has been in office since 2019 and has dedicated his life serving the Woodville. The courts, the district clerk, and the county clerk’s office are located in the historic Tyler County Courthouse. The Woodville Justice of Peace Court I is located on 400 West Bluff Street in the city of Woodville, the Tyler county seat.

The administration of justice in the Woodville Justice of Peace Court I is open, transparent, and open to the public. All the proceedings and acts of the court are recorded and maintained by the Tyler County Clerk’s Office.  The public can access the record online or by mailing the county clerk’s office located at Tyler County Courthouse. The requests are made by creating a written statement indicating a request for the records, the case number, and requisite application fees in a stamped self-addressed envelope. For more information about court proceedings, visit the court’s official site.

Woodville Justice of Peace Court I was first built in 1850 in the Tyler Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in May 1875. Four courthouses have been built in Woodville. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome. You can call 409-283-8425 or fax 409-283-5043 to the court during office hours to get more information.
