Sunset Valley Municipal Court serves the residents of Travis County, the 248th largest county in Texas state. The county falls in the third senatorial district and the 11th congressional district. Sunset Valley Municipal Court was first built in 1912 in the Travis Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in October 1877. Four courthouses have been built in Austin. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
