Austin Justice of Peace Court I serves the residents of Travis County, the 248th largest county in Texas state. The county falls in the third senatorial district and the 11th congressional district. As a result, it holds a very special role that makes it supported by both the Austin district clerk and county clerk. Issues that should be filed with the county clerk or the district clerk should be strictly filed within the respective courts; luckily, the staff is friendly and will help you through the process.

The current Austin Justice of Peace Court I judge has been in office since 2015 and has dedicated his life serving the Austin. The courts, the district clerk, and the county clerk’s office are located in the historic Travis County Courthouse. The Austin Justice of Peace Court I is located on 8656 Highway 71 in the city of Austin, the Travis county seat.

The administration of justice in the Austin Justice of Peace Court I is open, transparent, and open to the public. All the proceedings and acts of the court are recorded and maintained by the Travis County Clerk’s Office.  The public can access the record online or by mailing the county clerk’s office located at Travis County Courthouse. The requests are made by creating a written statement indicating a request for the records, the case number, and requisite application fees in a stamped self-addressed envelope. For more information about court proceedings, visit the court’s official site https://www.austintexas.gov/AmcPublicInquiry/pubportal.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2fAmcPublicInquiry%2fsearch%2fpsnsearch.aspx.

Austin Justice of Peace Court I was first built in 1917 in the Travis Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in February 1891. Four courthouses have been built in Austin. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome. You can call 512-854-6763 or fax 512-854-2197 to the court during office hours to get more information.
