Tom Green District Court was first built in 1878 in the Tom Green Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in March 1873. Four courthouses have been built in San Angelo. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
