Stephens County Court serves the residents of Stephens County, the 45th largest county in Texas state. The county falls in the third senatorial district and the 11th congressional district. As a result, it holds a very special role that makes it supported by both the Breckenridge district clerk and county clerk. Issues that should be filed with the county clerk or the district clerk should be strictly filed within the respective courts; luckily, the staff is friendly and will help you through the process.

The current Stephens County Court judge has been in office since 2013 and has dedicated his life serving the Breckenridge. The courts, the district clerk, and the county clerk’s office are located in the historic Stephens County Courthouse. The Stephens County Court is located on 200 West Walker Street in the city of Breckenridge, the Stephens county seat.

The administration of justice in the Stephens County Court is open, transparent, and open to the public. All the proceedings and acts of the court are recorded and maintained by the Stephens County Clerk’s Office.  The public can access the record online or by mailing the county clerk’s office located at Stephens County Courthouse. The requests are made by creating a written statement indicating a request for the records, the case number, and requisite application fees in a stamped self-addressed envelope. For more information about court proceedings, visit the court’s official site.

Stephens County Court was first built in 1904 in the Stephens Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in July 1878. Four courthouses have been built in Breckenridge. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome. You can call 254-559-2190 or fax 254-559-7296 to the court during office hours to get more information.
