Noonday Justice of Peace Court was first built in 1902 in the Smith Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in April 1911. Four courthouses have been built in Tyler. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
