Albany Justice of Peace Court was first built in 1883 in the Shackelford Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in November 1872. Four courthouses have been built in Albany. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
