Albany Justice of Peace Court serves the residents of Shackelford County, the 55th largest county in Texas state. The county falls in the third senatorial district and the 11th congressional district. As a result, it holds a very special role that makes it supported by both the Albany district clerk and county clerk. Issues that should be filed with the county clerk or the district clerk should be strictly filed within the respective courts; luckily, the staff is friendly and will help you through the process.

The current Albany Justice of Peace Court judge has been in office since 2018 and has dedicated his life serving the Albany. The courts, the district clerk, and the county clerk’s office are located in the historic Shackelford County Courthouse. The Albany Justice of Peace Court is located on 225 North Main Street in the city of Albany, the Shackelford county seat.

The administration of justice in the Albany Justice of Peace Court is open, transparent, and open to the public. All the proceedings and acts of the court are recorded and maintained by the Shackelford County Clerk’s Office.  The public can access the record online or by mailing the county clerk’s office located at Shackelford County Courthouse. The requests are made by creating a written statement indicating a request for the records, the case number, and requisite application fees in a stamped self-addressed envelope. For more information about court proceedings, visit the court’s official site.

Albany Justice of Peace Court was first built in 1883 in the Shackelford Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in November 1872. Four courthouses have been built in Albany. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome. You can call 325-762-2232 or fax 325-762-3966 to the court during office hours to get more information.
