Taft Municipal Court serves the residents of San Patricio County, the 139th largest county in Texas state. The county falls in the third senatorial district and the 11th congressional district. Taft Municipal Court was first built in 1875 in the San Patricio Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in October 1856. Four courthouses have been built in Taft. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
