Shepherd Justice of Peace Court serves the residents of San Jacinto County, the 151th largest county in Texas state. Shepherd Justice of Peace Court was first built in 1868 in the San Jacinto Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in January 1859. Four courthouses have been built in Shepherd. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
