Sabine District Court II was first built in 1901 in the San Augustine Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in May 1904. Four courthouses have been built in San Augustine. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
