Henderson Justice of Peace Court I serves the residents of Rusk County, the 23th largest county in Texas state. The county falls in the third senatorial district and the 11th congressional district. As a result, it holds a very special role that makes it supported by both the Henderson district clerk and county clerk. Issues that should be filed with the county clerk or the district clerk should be strictly filed within the respective courts; luckily, the staff is friendly and will help you through the process.

The current Henderson Justice of Peace Court I judge has been in office since 2018 and has dedicated his life serving the Henderson. The courts, the district clerk, and the county clerk’s office are located in the historic Rusk County Courthouse. The Henderson Justice of Peace Court I is located on 7933 Highway 42 in the city of Henderson, the Rusk county seat.

The administration of justice in the Henderson Justice of Peace Court I is open, transparent, and open to the public. All the proceedings and acts of the court are recorded and maintained by the Rusk County Clerk’s Office.  The public can access the record online or by mailing the county clerk’s office located at Rusk County Courthouse. The requests are made by creating a written statement indicating a request for the records, the case number, and requisite application fees in a stamped self-addressed envelope. For more information about court proceedings, visit the court’s official site.

Henderson Justice of Peace Court I was first built in 1860 in the Rusk Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in June 1877. Four courthouses have been built in Henderson. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome. You can call 903-854-4220 or fax 903-854-4316 to the court during office hours to get more information.
