Runnels County Court was first built in 1877 in the Runnels Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in September 1914. Four courthouses have been built in Ballinger. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
