Amarillo Justice of Peace Court II serves the residents of Potter County, the 44th largest county in Texas state. The county falls in the third senatorial district and the 11th congressional district. As a result, it holds a very special role that makes it supported by both the Amarillo district clerk and county clerk. Issues that should be filed with the county clerk or the district clerk should be strictly filed within the respective courts; luckily, the staff is friendly and will help you through the process.

The current Amarillo Justice of Peace Court II judge has been in office since 2010 and has dedicated his life serving the Amarillo. The courts, the district clerk, and the county clerk’s office are located in the historic Potter County Courthouse. The Amarillo Justice of Peace Court II is located on 701 South Pierce Street in the city of Amarillo, the Potter county seat.

The administration of justice in the Amarillo Justice of Peace Court II is open, transparent, and open to the public. All the proceedings and acts of the court are recorded and maintained by the Potter County Clerk’s Office.  The public can access the record online or by mailing the county clerk’s office located at Potter County Courthouse. The requests are made by creating a written statement indicating a request for the records, the case number, and requisite application fees in a stamped self-addressed envelope. For more information about court proceedings, visit the court’s official site http://www.co.potter.tx.us/default.aspx?Potter_County/District.Court.320.

Amarillo Justice of Peace Court II was first built in 1885 in the Potter Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in August 1847. Four courthouses have been built in Amarillo. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome. You can call 806-379-2390 or fax 806-379-2845 to the court during office hours to get more information.
