Mitchell District Court was first built in 1905 in the Nolan Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in January 1866. Four courthouses have been built in Sweetwater. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
