Kenefick Municipal Court serves the residents of Liberty County, the 216th largest county in Texas state. The county falls in the third senatorial district and the 11th congressional district. Kenefick Municipal Court was first built in 1876 in the Liberty Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in June 1858. Four courthouses have been built in Dayton. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
