Shiner Justice of Peace Court was first built in 1908 in the Lavaca Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in December 1887. Four courthouses have been built in Shiner. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
