Moulton Justice of Peace Court serves the residents of Lavaca County, the 10th largest county in Texas state. The county falls in the third senatorial district and the 11th congressional district. As a result, it holds a very special role that makes it supported by both the Moulton district clerk and county clerk. Issues that should be filed with the county clerk or the district clerk should be strictly filed within the respective courts; luckily, the staff is friendly and will help you through the process.

The current Moulton Justice of Peace Court judge has been in office since 2010 and has dedicated his life serving the Moulton. The courts, the district clerk, and the county clerk’s office are located in the historic Lavaca County Courthouse. The Moulton Justice of Peace Court is located on 414 South Lavaca Drive in the city of Moulton, the Lavaca county seat.

The administration of justice in the Moulton Justice of Peace Court is open, transparent, and open to the public. All the proceedings and acts of the court are recorded and maintained by the Lavaca County Clerk’s Office.  The public can access the record online or by mailing the county clerk’s office located at Lavaca County Courthouse. The requests are made by creating a written statement indicating a request for the records, the case number, and requisite application fees in a stamped self-addressed envelope. For more information about court proceedings, visit the court’s official site.

Moulton Justice of Peace Court was first built in 1854 in the Lavaca Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in April 1916. Four courthouses have been built in Moulton. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome. You can call 361-596-8308 or fax 361-596-8246 to the court during office hours to get more information.
