Powderly Justice of Peace Court serves the residents of Lamar County, the 28th largest county in Texas state. The county falls in the third senatorial district and the 11th congressional district. As a result, it holds a very special role that makes it supported by both the Powderly district clerk and county clerk. Issues that should be filed with the county clerk or the district clerk should be strictly filed within the respective courts; luckily, the staff is friendly and will help you through the process.

The current Powderly Justice of Peace Court judge has been in office since 2014 and has dedicated his life serving the Powderly. The courts, the district clerk, and the county clerk’s office are located in the historic Lamar County Courthouse. The Powderly Justice of Peace Court is located on 181 Co Road 44140 in the city of Powderly, the Lamar county seat.

The administration of justice in the Powderly Justice of Peace Court is open, transparent, and open to the public. All the proceedings and acts of the court are recorded and maintained by the Lamar County Clerk’s Office.  The public can access the record online or by mailing the county clerk’s office located at Lamar County Courthouse. The requests are made by creating a written statement indicating a request for the records, the case number, and requisite application fees in a stamped self-addressed envelope. For more information about court proceedings, visit the court’s official site.

Powderly Justice of Peace Court was first built in 1882 in the Lamar Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in October 1907. Four courthouses have been built in Powderly. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome. You can call 903-732-2441 to the court during office hours to get more information.
