Terrell Municipal Court serves the residents of Kaufman County, the 121th largest county in Texas state. The county falls in the third senatorial district and the 11th congressional district. Terrell Municipal Court was first built in 1887 in the Kaufman Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in March 1884. Four courthouses have been built in Terrell. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
