Terrell Justice of Peace Court was first built in 1892 in the Kaufman Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in April 1861. Four courthouses have been built in Terrell. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
