Meridian Justice of Peace Court was first built in 1895 in the Johnson Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in November 1853. Four courthouses have been built in Rio Vista. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
