Alvarado Municipal Court was first built in 1889 in the Johnson Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in July 1911. Four courthouses have been built in Alvarado. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
