Port Arthur Municipal Court serves the residents of Jefferson County, the 225th largest county in Texas state. The county falls in the third senatorial district and the 11th congressional district. As a result, it holds a very special role that makes it supported by both the Port Arthur district clerk and county clerk. Issues that should be filed with the county clerk or the district clerk should be strictly filed within the respective courts; luckily, the staff is friendly and will help you through the process.

The current Port Arthur Municipal Court judge has been in office since 2018 and has dedicated his life serving the Port Arthur. The courts, the district clerk, and the county clerk’s office are located in the historic Jefferson County Courthouse. The Port Arthur Municipal Court is located on 645 4th Street in the city of Port Arthur, the Jefferson county seat.

The administration of justice in the Port Arthur Municipal Court is open, transparent, and open to the public. All the proceedings and acts of the court are recorded and maintained by the Jefferson County Clerk’s Office.  The public can access the record online or by mailing the county clerk’s office located at Jefferson County Courthouse. The requests are made by creating a written statement indicating a request for the records, the case number, and requisite application fees in a stamped self-addressed envelope. For more information about court proceedings, visit the court’s official site http://www.co.jefferson.tx.us/distcrts/136th.htm.

Port Arthur Municipal Court was first built in 1905 in the Jefferson Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in September 1848. Four courthouses have been built in Port Arthur. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome. You can call 409-983-8686 to the court during office hours to get more information.
