Rains District Court I was first built in 1873 in the Hunt Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in November 1855. Four courthouses have been built in Greenville. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
