Commerce Municipal Court serves the residents of Hunt County, the 102th largest county in Texas state. The county falls in the third senatorial district and the 11th congressional district. As a result, it holds a very special role that makes it supported by both the Commerce district clerk and county clerk. Commerce Municipal Court was first built in 1884 in the Hunt Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in September 1875. Four courthouses have been built in Commerce. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
