Fort Hancock Justice of Peace Court serves the residents of Hudspeth County, the 164th largest county in Texas state. The county falls in the third senatorial district and the 11th congressional district. As a result, it holds a very special role that makes it supported by both the Fort Hancock district clerk and county clerk. Issues that should be filed with the county clerk or the district clerk should be strictly filed within the respective courts; luckily, the staff is friendly and will help you through the process.

The current Fort Hancock Justice of Peace Court judge has been in office since 2019 and has dedicated his life serving the Fort Hancock. The courts, the district clerk, and the county clerk’s office are located in the historic Hudspeth County Courthouse. The Fort Hancock Justice of Peace Court is located on 1419 Knox Avenue in the city of Fort Hancock, the Hudspeth county seat.

The administration of justice in the Fort Hancock Justice of Peace Court is open, transparent, and open to the public. All the proceedings and acts of the court are recorded and maintained by the Hudspeth County Clerk’s Office.  The public can access the record online or by mailing the county clerk’s office located at Hudspeth County Courthouse. The requests are made by creating a written statement indicating a request for the records, the case number, and requisite application fees in a stamped self-addressed envelope. For more information about court proceedings, visit the court’s official site.

Fort Hancock Justice of Peace Court was first built in 1901 in the Hudspeth Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in February 1900. Four courthouses have been built in Fort Hancock. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome. You can call 915-769-3887 or fax 915-769-3450 to the court during office hours to get more information.
