Crockett Justice of Peace Court was first built in 1887 in the Houston Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in November 1865. Four courthouses have been built in Crockett. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
