Henderson District Court II was first built in 1893 in the Henderson Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in November 1864. Four courthouses have been built in Athens. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
