San Marcos Municipal Court serves the residents of Hays County, the 144th largest county in Texas state. The county falls in the third senatorial district and the 11th congressional district. San Marcos Municipal Court was first built in 1915 in the Hays Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in March 1854. Four courthouses have been built in San Marcos. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
