Hartley County Court serves the residents of Hartley County, the 200th largest county in Texas state. The county falls in the third senatorial district and the 11th congressional district. Hartley County Court was first built in 1854 in the Hartley Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in August 1867. Four courthouses have been built in Channing. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
