Sour Lake Municipal Court was first built in 1869 in the Hardin Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in June 1885. Four courthouses have been built in Sour Lake. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
