Swisher District Court serves the residents of Hale County, the 253th largest county in Texas state. The county falls in the third senatorial district and the 11th congressional district. Swisher District Court was first built in 1864 in the Hale Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in February 1908. Four courthouses have been built in Plainview. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
