Abernathy Municipal Court was first built in 1883 in the Hale Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in January 1873. Four courthouses have been built in Abernathy. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
