Iola Justice of Peace Court serves the residents of Grimes County, the 122th largest county in Texas state. The county falls in the third senatorial district and the 11th congressional district. As a result, it holds a very special role that makes it supported by both the Iola district clerk and county clerk. Issues that should be filed with the county clerk or the district clerk should be strictly filed within the respective courts; luckily, the staff is friendly and will help you through the process.

The current Iola Justice of Peace Court judge has been in office since 2013 and has dedicated his life serving the Iola. The courts, the district clerk, and the county clerk’s office are located in the historic Grimes County Courthouse. The Iola Justice of Peace Court is located on 23710 Farm to Market 39 in the city of Iola, the Grimes county seat.

The administration of justice in the Iola Justice of Peace Court is open, transparent, and open to the public. All the proceedings and acts of the court are recorded and maintained by the Grimes County Clerk’s Office.  The public can access the record online or by mailing the county clerk’s office located at Grimes County Courthouse. The requests are made by creating a written statement indicating a request for the records, the case number, and requisite application fees in a stamped self-addressed envelope. For more information about court proceedings, visit the court’s official site http://www.co.grimes.tx.us/default.aspx?Grimes_County/Court%20dates.

Iola Justice of Peace Court was first built in 1905 in the Grimes Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in March 1869. Four courthouses have been built in Iola. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome. You can call 936-394-2060 or fax 936-394-4110 to the court during office hours to get more information.
