Southmayd Municipal Court serves the residents of Grayson County, the 7th largest county in Texas state. The county falls in the third senatorial district and the 11th congressional district. Southmayd Municipal Court was first built in 1902 in the Grayson Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in March 1916. Four courthouses have been built in Sherman. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
