Smiley Municipal Court serves the residents of Gonzales County, the 238th largest county in Texas state. The county falls in the third senatorial district and the 11th congressional district. Smiley Municipal Court was first built in 1914 in the Gonzales Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in January 1890. Four courthouses have been built in Nixon. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
