Fredericksburg Justice of Peace Court was first built in 1859 in the Gillespie Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in October 1905. Four courthouses have been built in Fredericksburg. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
