Fairfield Municipal Court was first built in 1886 in the Freestone Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in May 1870. Four courthouses have been built in Fairfield. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
