Mount Vernon Municipal Court serves the residents of Franklin County, the 173th largest county in Texas state. The county falls in the third senatorial district and the 11th congressional district. As a result, it holds a very special role that makes it supported by both the Mount Vernon district clerk and county clerk. Issues that should be filed with the county clerk or the district clerk should be strictly filed within the respective courts; luckily, the staff is friendly and will help you through the process.

The current Mount Vernon Municipal Court judge has been in office since 2018 and has dedicated his life serving the Mount Vernon. The courts, the district clerk, and the county clerk’s office are located in the historic Franklin County Courthouse. The Mount Vernon Municipal Court is located on 109 Kaufman Street in the city of Mount Vernon, the Franklin county seat.

The administration of justice in the Mount Vernon Municipal Court is open, transparent, and open to the public. All the proceedings and acts of the court are recorded and maintained by the Franklin County Clerk’s Office.  The public can access the record online or by mailing the county clerk’s office located at Franklin County Courthouse. The requests are made by creating a written statement indicating a request for the records, the case number, and requisite application fees in a stamped self-addressed envelope. For more information about court proceedings, visit the court’s official site.

Mount Vernon Municipal Court was first built in 1871 in the Franklin Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in June 1902. Four courthouses have been built in Mount Vernon. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome. You can call 903-537-3582 or fax 903-537-2634 to the court during office hours to get more information.
